Book Club and Being Involved

Today was a big day for me, after church I went to my first book club meeting! I feel like it’s been much too long since I’ve read and discussed a book, but I am diving back in and remembering what I love about books. Plus it’s always nice to meet new people, and subject them to the results of my baking ;)

So let’s backtrack a little bit… I’ve always loved to read. I was one of those kids who got prizes in gradeschool because they read the most books on the reading list (geek alert, I know) and earned lots of points in the reading program. Seriously, I even tried to read Les Miserables in 4th grade because it was worth so many points, and it seemed like a good challenge. However, as most of you know from experience, it is very hard to keep up with reading for enjoyment during college because you have so many textbooks and assigned readings to complete. It was always enough to make my head spin, and never left me with much time to read what I wanted to read.

This year, one of my goals is to read more and be involved with activities and groups that I always make excuses to myself that I don’t have time for (I’m guessing you’ve been there, too). This is going to be the year of saying “I’m going to try this…” instead of “I wish I could try this…” I encourage everyone to try to do the same thing with your year! Start small, just pick one thing you’d like to improve on or try out, and go for it. You won’t regret it!

So here is my little attempt at illustrating this particular goal for the year 2012…

Get it?! A book!

Callie + Tyler | Sussex Wedding Part 2

Again, a huge congratulations to Callie + Tyler, and to both of your new families!! I could not have been happier to share your wedding day with you, and I have been so antsy to share some photos from your reception :)

Previously, I shared images from Callie + Tyler’s December wedding ceremony at the beautiful Faith Lutheran Church in Sussex, WI. Afterwards, as man and wife, they had a fun night of celebration at Davian’s banquet center in nearby Menomonee Falls. The night could best be described as energetic, delicious, and amazing, but I will let the pictures do the talking (well mostly)…

Immediately after the ceremony, and after stealing a kiss, Tyler and Callie greeted their guests one by one as they ushered them out of the church. What a sweet gesture!

Also, I just have to point out the gorgeous hair accessories, made by a very talented friend of the bride, Anna Kolander!

After the ladies got Callie’s dress bustled, it was out into the snow and on to the party!

Introducing the new Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Shinnick!

I don’t know if I have ever seen so many guests up and dancing ALL. NIGHT. LONG. What a fun way to end the evening!

Oh yes, they both were lifted up on chairs, as per tradition for Seminary students at their wedding. One of my favorites of the day…

Callie + Tyler | Sussex Wedding Part 1

Summer camp brings back different memories for all of us. Some people might remember campfires and roasting marshmallows, and others might think of nature walks, swimming, and learning to canoe. Well, for Callie and Tyler, the memories are a bit different…camp is where they found their soulmate. They met as counselors at Camp Phillip, as rumor has it, a place where lots of people meet their future spouse. Although Callie and Tyler weren’t aware yet that they would get married one day, they got to know each other and formed a relationship throughout their seasons at Camp.

After dating for a few years, Tyler realized he was ready and decided it was time to dive in head first and ask Callie to marry him! I couldn’t have been luckier to capture these two wonderful people so in love on their wedding day. Even more than that, Tyler and Callie have something stronger and more important in common — their faith and trust in God. They were married on December 30th at Faith Lutheran Church in Sussex, and I was very blessed to be able to be there to document their day. Callie and Tyler, thank you from the bottom of my heart for asking me to be your photographer, and congratulations on your marriage! I hope you had a wonderful time on your tropical honeymoon, and here are some photos of your day. Hopefully they bring back some memories of last Saturday, and some memories from your time at Camp :) I have a sudden urge to go roast some marshmallows now…

Also, a special thanks to Angel, my friend and second shooter, who helped me capture the ceremony and the groomsmen getting ready!
