Film + A Piece of My “Why”

December 31, 2013

My last fall engagement session was a HUGE step for me as a photographer because this was my first session shot entirely on film!! This was one of my goals near the end of 2013 – it was such an exhilarating and calming experience all at once!

Film has taught me to slow down, think more before I shoot, and have all my gear ready to go so that when that magic moment happens, I’m ready for it! An added bonus is the true-to-life skintones straight out of the camera. In fact, the image below is straight out of the camera, no edits or Photoshop. Have you seen these two?! They don’t need editing! :) I strive to get everything as correctly exposed and composed as possible, so that I’m putting the majority of the work in before I even take the shot (as opposed to much time spend editing on a computer afterwards).

Imagine the hours added back to my life to spend in other areas of my business, serving my clients, or just enjoying some free time with my fiance instead of being tied to my computer editing images! The bottom line? Film is expensive, but there is a reason for it – it comes out AH-MAZING. With results that digital photography can’t touch, in my opinion. End of story.
