You + Me // Behind the Brand

December 26, 2014

As you’re researching + meeting with photographers, its important to keep in mind that you’ll be spending almost your entire wedding day together! You need to be able to be comfortable + be yourself, trust them fully, and connect with your photographer in order to enjoy your time together. The result will be stunning images, and more importantly, a happy feeling each time you look back on your photos + remember your entire photography ‘experience’ on your first day of marriage.

I know The Knot and many other wedding planners + binders will give you a list of questions to ask your photographer. Those are fine to ask, but equally important is this thought: What you should ask about is what you care about – things that you invest your time in as well – interests, hobbies, and passions outside of your work. These are the types of conversations that will help you decide if we’re the right fit and our personalities work well together.

It’s likely that if you’re my kind of couple, you already know that you like my photographic style & philosophy, and now you’re more interested in what we have in common and how we would get along on your wedding day. You want to know about my personal interests, travels, and how I choose to spend my free time (because it’s probably very similar to you). More often than not, I find through working with all my wonderful clients that we have much more in common than you would guess. We have commonalities, and that helps couples feel comfortable with me simply by feeling like they know me – who I am and what fills up my heart and my time.

What it comes down to is the more commonalities we share, the more likely we are to work well together. Laid back yet organized, active, creative, outdoor-loving, adventurous couples typically get along wonderfully with me because we’re similar.

What lumps most well-seasoned wedding photographers into the same group is that we (1) use professional photography gear and have backup equipment, (2) know how to deal with tricky and ever-changing lighting situations, (3) are used to the pressure and quick flow of events on a wedding day, (4) have done enough weddings that we don’t even need a detailed, written shot list because we have a mental one and adjust it to fit each unique couple, and (5) are prepared for anything and everything your day can possibly bring.

Now, what sets me apart, simply put, is me. The way I see life, my personality, and the way I am emotionally and physically invested in your story and telling it for you through photographs. My vision, effortlessly and naturally combined with yours, to document your wedding day unlike any other photographer out there – from your perspective AND my own. Now you can probably understand why us being similar helps for a unified vision and goal of storytelling.

If you feel like we could be a good match to work together and document your love story, get in touch – I’d love to hear from you!
